WNBA Expert Picks for Today’s Games

WNBA Expert Picks For Today: May 26

We’re kicking off Memorial Day weekend with two plays in tonight’s WNBA action. The Chicago Sky will host the Washington Mystics in their home opener tonight at Wintrust Arena, while the Dallas Wings will play their first road game of the season in Seattle. With plenty of value to be had in the WNBA betting markets, scroll down to see how I’m playing both of these games.

Mystics at Sky Pick

I think the Sky are a little undervalued in the marketplace to start the season, which is why I’m going to play them at +5 against the Mystics tonight. Part of that is because Chicago lost five of its six players that averaged at least 10 points per game last season, so one would expect to see a big drop off in offensive production. However, it brought in Marina Mabrey, Courtney Williams and Elizabeth Williams, all of whom can score. Elizabeth Williams has anchored a defense that has been a bright spot for the Sky already through their first two games. They’ve held both opponents to under 70 points and, while the sample size is small, they own the best defensive rating in the league. Chicago’s perimeter defense has been scrappy in forcing turnovers. It forced Phoenix into 19 turnovers and Minnesota into 20. This is also the Sky’s home opener, so I expect Wintrust Arena to be loud tonight. This line moved all the way up to +5.5 earlier today but is back down to +5. Grab that number at DraftKings before it goes down even more.

My pick: Sky +5

Wings at Storm Pick

Both the Wings and Strom have only played one game this season, so we haven’t been able to get a good look at who these teams really are. I don’t expect much from Seattle this season after losing Sue Bird to retirement and Breanna Stewart to the New York Liberty. Jewell Loyd is going to have to carry this team on offense because it doesn’t have too many natural scorers. The Storm only put up 64 points on the Aces and while I recognize that the Aces are the best team in the league, I also think Seattle’s offense doesn’t have the talent to put up big numbers each night. The Wings beat the Dream comfortably in their season opener, but they too have quite a few new faces on their roster. That’s going to take some time for them to learn to play together. Plus, their new, first-year head coach, Latricia Trammell, is a defensive-minded coach that wants to win games on that end of the floor. I see this game ending around 157, so I’ll take the under tonight. You can still get under 160.5 at BetMGM, but you’ll want to hurry and take that because it’s moved to 160 at most other books.

My pick: Under 160.5
